Door Japanse invloeden is de bloesem van de kersenboom (sakura) wereldwijd symbool gaan staan voor de schoonheid van de vergankelijkheid: de bloesem is extra waardevol doordat je weet dat al dat moois heel snel weer is verdwenen. Het is een kleine oefening in loslaten.

Alleen … zo makkelijk is loslaten niet, zeker als de lessen groter worden. ‘Sakura Forever’ gaat precies daarover.

Het raakt ook lichtjes aan zaken als de klimaatcrisis, teleurgestelde toeristen in een verlept bloesempark, en natuurlijk over de bloesem zelf – zowel de echte als die van kunststof.

Je kunt het boekje ophangen aan de muur, als een klein kunstwerkje. Of zo je wilt: als een soort kalender (maar dan een waarvan je zelf mag weten wanneer je de blaadjes omslaat).

Thanks to Japanese influences, cherry blossoms (sakura) have become a global symbol of the beauty of impermanence: the blooms are extra precious because we know that all this beauty will quickly disappear. It’s a little exercise in letting go.

But… letting go isn’t that easy, especially when the lessons get bigger. ‘Sakura Forever’ is all about that.

It also refers to things like the climate crisis, disappointed tourists in a wilted blossom park, and of course, the blossoms themselves – both real and artificial.

You can hang the booklet on the wall, like a little piece of art. Or, if you prefer, like a kind of calendar (but one where you get to decide when to turn the pages).
